Coral Rosehill When people talk about how music transcends language, this is a prime example of the essence of that idea.
My AOTY for 2017. Favorite track: We Haven't Located Us Yet.

Walter Furness Naal conjures up brooding emotion in this album reminiscent of Cliff Martinez's work on Drive. And yet, somehow, there is an optimistic seed that emerges from the ambient waves. I think this is a collection that will continue to unveil itself and shape-shift upon subsequent listenings. Favorite track: This Is Not Our Ordinary Life.

Shannon Penner A work of beauty that encompasses both depth and breadth. Expansive yet focused. A sadness that contains within it a sense of hope. Favorite track: Invisible Weapons.

about

THIS IS THE DELUXE VERSION OF THE ALBUMS WITH TWO ADDITIONAL TRACKS

A703, the debut full length album from the Chicago drone/rock project, NAAL, is a slow, methodical album, focusing on darker themes- hopelessness, helplessness, pain, and death. However, it is possible that there is, in the end, hope. Perhaps the listener may be able to take a few moments to quiet their self, still their inner turmoil, breathe in, and, for a moment, truly believe that there may, after all, be a respite at the end of the journey.

If you cannot seem to quiet the noise, or find shelter from the storm, and you've all but given up... Know, at least, that you are not alone.

about

Naal Nashville, Tennessee

So-called Punk Rocker of ambient. NAAL is the postmodernist, minimal composition/drone project of Nashville based, award winning film composer Dave Mantel. With elements of ambient and drone music, field recordings, and a multi-sensory live performance, NAAL explores the depths of simple, mostly a-melodic compositions, made up of thick layers of gently modulating tones and textures. ... more
