about
>momen_s. ("moments," "momens," or "small moments," if you'd like) is the result of a minimalist approach to the idea of "ambient" music. I made this album with just two pedals (a Strymon El Capistan and a Chase Bliss MOOD), and two guitars (a thinline telecaster I've put together from parts, and a resonator acoustic guitar), and a desire to 'make something happen' in less than three minutes of song time. Short compositions are still an area very much outside of my comfort zone, but I wanted to push myself and really explore what kind of sounds I could make with such large (for me) constraints. The result is these eight small moments, lovingly put together here for you. This project allowed me to really explore some sounds that have been with me for a long time, but that I haven't really been able to articulate. Stripping back all the gear and really pushing myself out of my typical writing habits really played a big role in allowing myself the freedom to explore those influences and ideas that I had been neglecting. There's probably some allegory there.
My friend Shannon remarked while I was writing these songs, "It is refreshing to hear a guitar sound like a guitar again." While I'm not sure everyone will feel that way, I hope you at least don't mind, in this case.
